Black Music City Grantee Award Project

Black Music City, a collaboration of Philadelphia public music radio stations WXPN-FM and WRTI-FM and REC Philly, recognizes and honors the influence of Philadelphia Black music history by awarding grants for new creative works that it inspires.

After awarding more than $48,000 in grants to 23 recipients in 2021, Black Music City returns for a second year to fund and heighten recognition for new works by Philadelphia area Black creatives.

Black Music City seeks to award nearly $100,000 for projects that honor Philadelphia’s rich Black music history.

A committee of prominent Black Philadelphia professionals in the arts, media, and business will judge the final round of applications, with grants to recipients working in a range of creative mediums to be announced on February 15, 2022. The grantees and their completed projects will be featured in specially-produced Black Music City videos, celebrated in a Juneteenth event on June 19, 2022, and promoted by the project's partners to the broader Philadelphia arts community and beyond. Black Music City is hosted by The Bul Bey.
